FMJH: Research Stays for PhD Students

Deadline: 31 December 2026. As part of global agreements between the FMJH and various Canadian partners, applicants are required to apply simultaneously to the program described below and to the programs of the Canadian partners. Please refer to these parallel applications in your submission. Agreement with the CRM (Quebec); Agreement with the Fields Institute (Ontario). The calls are planned for implementation in three phases. Phase 1: release mid-January with application deadline 1st March. Phase 2: release mid-March with application deadline 15th June. Phase 3: release mid-September with application deadline 31st December. From Canada to France PhD students from Canada can apply for a grant from the Junior Scientific Visibility Program of the Fondation mathématique Jacques Hadamard to conduct a one- or two-month visit to one of the laboratories affiliated to the Foundation. The maximum grant amount is €2300. The application must include details about the stay (duration, location, cost, requested funding amount), a favorable opinion from the thesis supervisor, an invitation letter with approval from the host laboratory management, and a motivated scientific program.

Six-Month to One-Year Stays in Quebec

Deadline: October 1, 2026. The CNRS has a significant number of international research laboratories in mathematics (IRL). The process for assignments abroad by the CNRS, as part of a delegation for female researchers and male researchers, allows for long-term stays, typically from six months to one year, under good conditions. Unless there is a change in the organization of the CNRS, for stays starting in September 2027, it will be in the fall of 2026 that assignment requests must be submitted, according to a schedule similar to that of delegation requests. Since expatriation projects need to be prepared, it is therefore possible to start thinking about them right now.

Six-Month to One-Year Stays in Western Canada

Deadline: October 1, 2026. The PIMS is a network of mathematics laboratories located in Western Canada, a partner of CNRS since 2007 through an international laboratory (IRL). As such, it can host long stays (6 to 12 months) abroad, as part of CNRS delegation requests. There are about ten member universities of PIMS: Simon Fraser U. U. of Alberta U. of British Columbia U. of Calgary U. of Lethbridge U. of Manitoba U. of Regina U. of Saskatchewan U. of Victoria U. of Washington as well as four affiliates: First Nations University, U. of Northern British Columbia, and Portland State U. It has a very dynamic community that covers the entire spectrum of mathematical sensitivities.

PIMS: Long-term Research Stays in France for PIMS Members

Deadline: 30 September 2026. Scientists from PIMS member institutions are eligible for fellowships for a medium-term stay (2 months or longer) in a French laboratory. The application must include: A focused overview of the planned research activity, including locations and collaborators based in France (up to 5 pages); A letter of support from the proposed host institution in France; A letter from the applicant’s department head supporting the proposed visit. This letter must specify the duration of the stay in France. For stays covering part of the academic year, the department must commit to providing teaching release for the planned duration of the visit. It must be sent to the PIMS Director (director@pims.math.ca) by September 30th each year for stays beginning the following calendar year.

Mathematics and Oceans

Deadline: 15 June 2026. With three oceanic coastlines—Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific—and the world’s longest coastline, alongside a highly dynamic mathematical community, Canada offers rich opportunities for disciplinary or interdisciplinary collaborations on the theme of mathematics for the ocean. The international research laboratories CRM-CNRS, Takuvik, Takuvik, and PIMS-CNRS, with support from the CNRS Mission for Transverse Initiatives, are offering a two-week exploratory stay in Canada in the field of mathematics for the ocean to two mathematician, each affiliated with a CNRS-hosted joint research unit or research federation.

Cirm-CRM Agreement: Small Group Research Stays

Deadline: 15 June 2026. The Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (Cirm, Marseille, France) and the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM, Montréal, Québec, Canada) have partnered to offer: all mathematicians working in France; all mathematicians whose university is a CRM partner, the opportunity to gather as a team to conduct research, including a stay at Cirm and a stay at CRM. Each team must consist of one or two individuals working in France and one or two individuals whose university is a CRM partner.

CNRS – CRM – FMJH – FSMP Agreement

A collaboration agreement has been signed between the National Institute for Mathematical Sciences and their Interactions (Insmi), the Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM), the Jacques Hadamard Mathematical Foundation (FMJH), and the Paris Mathematical Sciences Foundation (FSMP), with the goal of strengthening mathematical research cooperation between France and Québec. Cirm-CRM Agreement: Mirror conferences

Deadline: June 15, 2026. The Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (Cirm, Marseille, France) and the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) have joined forces to offer the opportunity to organize Franco-Québécois mirror conferences. A mirror conference is an event that takes place at two sites: some of the participants are in residence at Cirm; others are at the CRM. Some talks held at one center are broadcast live to the other. The event is expected to last about three days and involve around ten researchers on each side. The host institute for each group will cover the accommodation costs of its guests, according to its own procedures.
