FRQ support: research internship in France for students

Deadline : January 10, 2025. Students supervised by a member of the CRM (or one of its laboratories) who are enrolled in a 2nd or 3rd cycle program at a Quebec university are eligible for FRQ research internship grants in France. The application must include a description of the work to be carried out during the internship, a curriculum vitae and a recent transcript of the candidate’s grades, a letter of recommendation signed by the thesis or dissertation supervisor, a letter signed by the internship supervisor specifying the start and end dates of the internship internship must be submitted so that the internship begins at least 2 months and no more than 9 months after the application deadline.

FRQ support: visit in CRM of mathematicians from France

Deadline : January 10, 2025. Mathematicians working in France and students enrolled in a university in France are eligible for FRQ funding to visit the CRM in connection with its scientific activities. The application must include a letter of intent with a description of the activity, a budget proposal, a letter of nomination from an CRM member (or the e-mail address of an CRM member who could serve as a reference), a CV including a list of publications must be submitted so that the visit starts at least 2 months and no more than 9 months after the application deadline.

The program described here is not limited to exchanges between Canada and France, but I’m only talking about these exchanges. Funding of new collaborations

Deadline : November 18, 2024 A consortium of twenty-three Canadian universities and the French Embassy in Canada have joined forces to fund new collaborations. Selected teams shall be awarded grants ranging from CAD 8,000 to CAD 15,000, mainly to finance the mobility of researchers and students between the two countries. Applications The project presented must involve only people who have never worked together (no co-publication, no co-organization, no co-supervision…). It must include master’s and doctoral students, but be presented by a researcher with a permanent position.

Affectations, délégations: Hosting mathematicians from France in Canadian laboratories

Deadline: October 15, 2024. In 2025 or 2025-2026, researchers and teacher-researchers who are members of the laboratories in partnership with the Institut national des sciences mathématiques ed de leurs interactions of CNRS (Insmi) can take part in a medium- or long-term stay abroad in an International Research Laboratory (IRL), in particular at CRM-CNRS or PIMS-CNRS. For better planning of the stay project, it is imperative to discuss the projects upstream (and certainly before submitting the application) informally with the Insmi deputy scientific director in charge of international affairs.

AI projects

Deadline for expressions of intent: October 15, 2024. Canada and France are co-funding interdisciplinary research projects on artificial intelligence, in particular targeting : Generative AI; Integrated AI safety and security. Multidisciplinary projects, based on both theoretical and practical approaches, including a full range of disciplines (natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, health) and taking into account ethical and health equity considerations, are strongly encouraged. PIMS Europe: long-term research stays in France for PIMS members

Deadline: September 30, 2024. Mathematicians holding a position at a PIMS member university are eligible for grants for a medium- to long-term stay (at least 2 months) in a French laboratory starting in 2025. The application including an overview of the planned research activity, including planned locations and collaborators in France (up to 5 pages), a letter of support from the proposed host institution in France, a letter from the candidate’s head of department supporting the proposed visit and indicating the duration of the candidate’s stay in France, [for visits that include part of the academic year] a commitment from the department to provide teaching release for the duration of the proposed visit must be sent to the PIMS director. Postes rouges : Hosting mathematicians from Canada in French laboratories

Deadline: September 30, 2024. The Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) offers mathematicians working in an institution outside France the opportunity to spend three months in a laboratory in France between February 1, 2025 and November 30, 2025. This stay is accompanied by financial support: travel, visa, accommodation and catering expenses for the duration of the stay. Interested parties must first identify a laboratory in France that can host them, and contact a colleague with whom they can develop a research program during their stay.
