Deadline: October 1, 2026.

The PIMS is a network of mathematics laboratories located in Western Canada, a partner of CNRS since 2007 through an international laboratory (IRL).

As such, it can host long stays (6 to 12 months) abroad, as part of CNRS delegation requests.

There are about ten member universities of PIMS:

  • Simon Fraser U.
  • U. of Alberta
  • U. of British Columbia
  • U. of Calgary
  • U. of Lethbridge
  • U. of Manitoba
  • U. of Regina
  • U. of Saskatchewan
  • U. of Victoria
  • U. of Washington as well as four affiliates: First Nations University, U. of Northern British Columbia, and Portland State U.

It has a very dynamic community that covers the entire spectrum of mathematical sensitivities.

All MCF and PR are invited to explore the possibility of undertaking a delegation to one of the PIMS sites.

The steps to build such a project require anticipating the different stages. Indeed, applications are submitted in parallel to (i) INSMI (International Affairs Department) and (ii) via the SIRAH application of the ministry (Galaxie portal) to obtain the teaching release.

A typical recommended timeline is as follows: for a delegation departure in September of year N

  • Spring “Year N-1”: preliminary discussions to refine the collaboration project with your colleagues affiliated with PIMS, as well as the “international” management of INSMI (Frédéric Hérau);
  • Summer “Year N-1”: contact the PIMS management (Ozgur Yilma) to announce the submission of the application 3-4 months later (taking into account the summer break). Preparation of the delegation application file.
  • September-October “Year N-1”: submission of the delegation application file to CNRS and in SIRAH. Note that one of the documents requires the signed opinion of the unit director (DU) of the IRL (Ozgur Yilmaz) and that of your DU in France (UMR, FR, etc.).
  • Spring Year N: progressive announcements of the results of obtaining the delegation, final discussions with INSMI; ideally, start preparing for the on-site setup (housing, visas, etc.).
  • July-August Year N: final signatures of agreements between all concerned institutions (Univ., CNRS).
  • September of year N: taking office, no earlier than September 1.
